Learn about how your brain thinks and the shortcuts it takes to keep you on track. You will be introduced to the concept of implicit and cognitive bias and how it can lead to biased and privileged systems.
Objectives:
After completing this training, participants will be able to:

Learn how your brain processes information and the schemas it uses

Gain a personal understanding of how cognitive biases create biased systems

Explore how bias leads to privilege and how they work both for and against you
Description:
Participants will look at how privilege and bias impact design, implementation and choice making in housing and community development programs. After a quick review of the concepts of implicit bias that affect systems of privilege, there will be an overview of the concepts of privilege, white privilege (dominant culture privilege), and the concept of system debiasing.
Objectives:
After completing this training, participants will be able to:

Recognize how stereotypes, In Group/Out Group, and other concepts form the base of systems of privilege

Recall the many forms of privilege that exist and how privilege is relative

Review operations and systems in order to reduce the impact of dominant culture bias
